What is Terra?

Terra is a space where connection, regeneration, and community thrive. We’re crafting a vibrant, supportive environment for those seeking to slow down, reconnect, and cultivate new ways of living. Rooted in Northern Hungary in the village of Szanda, we invite you to share in our story, grow with us, and rediscover what it means to live with intention.

Vision

At Terra, our vision is to create a sustainable, dynamic community where urban and rural worlds meet. We aspire to inspire and empower people to reconnect, embrace regenerative practices, and learn from the people who’ve lived these traditions for generations. Through shared experiences, workshops, and art residencies, we’re building a future that blends the richness of the past with the promise of a thriving, interconnected future.

Purpose

Our purpose is to create a space where like-minded individuals can slow down, learn new skills, and build lasting connections. Whether it’s through gardening, fermenting, natural wine making, truffle hunting, or having a garden to table fine dining experience at the Terra House, we offer opportunities to explore a slower, more mindful way of living. With a focus on food, education, community-building, and celebrating the arts, we aim to help foster the growth of the village of Szanda and its surrounding area – nurturing both the land and the spirit of those who walk it.

Learning Retreat

Terra grew out of an urge to learn how to live differently in the ongoing planetary crisis. We believe that reconnection is key. Therefore, we created a learning retreat that offers a series of seasonally attuned, transformative experiences that help us to reconnect with ourselves, with Others (including the more-than- human) and the places we belong to.

Food connects

We understand eating and the cultivation of food as one of the most universal and intimate ways of reconnection to self, others, and place. Therefore, at Terra we offer participatory culinary workshops that invite you to engage in seasonal work around food such as: regenerative gardening (soil care, composting, sawing, harvesting) processing (fermenting, cooking, brewing, smoking), foraging, and most importantly: eating. In all our activities, we combine local Palóc knowledge with regenerative practices.

The concept: Workshop + dinner experience

- Fusing the worlds of private dining, supper clubs and knowledge sharing, we facilitate workshops for a maximum of 8 people to keep the quality of what we do at the highest. During all workshops you are served a simple seasonal lunch sourced from the Terra gardens and coffee/tea.

- While we are busy learning, a multiple course dinner paired with fitting drinks is prepared from the same ingredients that you are engaging with in or around the Terra gardens. Dinner is served after the workshops where stories, hacks, recipes and experiences of the food we eat are shared.
The exact dinner and drinks menu that has been carefully curated for each workshop is shared with participants one week before the start of that workshop. This way we can truly stay seasonal.

Place teaches

Our learning philosophy is inspired by regenerative thought, place-based pedagogy, and the traditions of the palóc people who are indigenous to the area. We believe that both the place and the people who are living here can teach us to from different relationships with the world around us. They may help us to experience that we are part of and dependent on a network of living beings. As such, the place can be a breeding ground for groups and individuals who wish to build relationships that are more sustaining of life.
